Michael Bertuccio leads the firm’s strategy, corporate development, and investor relations. He brings a wealth of knowledge from leading positions at BP, JP Morgan and Glencore. Most recently, Michael co-founded and served as President & CEO of an oil & gas investment platform, which he successfully exited in 2019. Michael received his AB in Government & International Relations from Harvard University.
Drew Gilbert,
Founding & Managing Partner
Drew Gilbert leads the firm’s strategy, deal negotiations, and human capital management. Drew’s experience includes building businesses, trading and investing in the financial markets. He co-founded, and sold Vermillion Asset Management, a multibillion-dollar global commodities asset management firm to the Carlyle Group, where he continued as a Partner. Drew began his career as a derivatives trader at Susquehanna International Group. Drew received his BS in Computer Science from Columbia University.
Billy McCartney,
Founding & Managing Partner
Billy McCartney leads the firm’s commercial origination effort. Billy was CEO of Flat Rock Development, a private equity backed upstream energy company in the heart of the Utica Shale. Previously, he led multiple natural gas, oil and fuel oil trading business lines within Vitol. Billy began his career as systems planning engineer at Dominion Gas Transmission. Billy received his BS in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University.
Jason Goldstein,
Founding Partner
Jason Goldstein leads the firm’s investment structuring and execution. Jason co-founded Gravity Midstream, an EnCap Flatrock backed midstream energy company. At the same time, he managed a physical oil trading and liquid petroleum storage terminal business for a separate entity. Jason started his career in investment banking, specializing in institutional private placements and leveraged finance. He earned his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and received his BSE from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Shalin Shah,
Founding Partner
Shalin Shah leads the firm’s finances and operations. Shalin was CFO of Flat Rock Development, a private-equity backed upstream energy company, where Shalin led the company’s financial and commercial operations. Previously, Shalin held commercial leadership roles in finance and operations with a focus on improving and building businesses and managing risk. Shalin received his MBA from Vanderbilt University and his BS in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University.
Nikolai Amburgey,

Nikolai Amburgey leads the firm’s development of investment strategies and supports investor relations. He brings a wealth of experience from designing investment strategies for DoubleLine Capital, Colony Capital and Galway Partners. Nikolai received his BA in Philosophy from the University of Washington and his JD from Georgetown University.
Jacob Smith,
PhD, Partner
Jacob Smith leads the firm’s quantitative analytics. Previously, he was co-founder and Head of Analytics for Alpine Energy Capital, an upstream energy investment platform which combines innovative financing structures with physical operations. He has also led natural gas analytics for hedge funds Ouray Energy Management and Dynasty Energy. Jacob graduated cum laude with a BA in Economics and Political Science from Coe College and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Houston.
